Crossbridge Point

There are far more adult residents of Indiana with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) than there are safe, affordable, and supportive residential settings designed to accommodate their needs and desires throughout their lives.

Adults with IDD have few housing options. Some may continue to live with their families, while others may move into group homes or into adult foster care with other families. Our research and lived experience suggest that the lack of living options can lead to the isolation of individuals who want nothing more than to have friends, work, and to live within an active community, just like any adult would.

ILADD has an answer for those looking for another option.

Our initial development, Crossbridge Point, will be a unique neighborhood located within the Wild Air development in Zionsville, Indiana. This first neighborhood will feature approximately 20 homes, with about 75% of those homes set aside for adults with IDD. The remaining homes would be for adults without disabilities who choose to live as intentional neighbors and provide natural supports to the residents of Crossbridge Point.  An intentional neighborhood designed for adults with IDD integrated with adults without IDD would be new to the Indianapolis metro area.

Crossbridge Point is planned to include beautifully designed homes for 1, 2, or 3 adults, with spacious landscaped common greenspaces. The final number of homes and adults with and without IDD living there will be determined by the mix of home configurations.

Crossbridge Point homes would feature:

  • Sizes that range from approximately 1,000sf for a one-bedroom home to 1,600sf for a three-bedroom home. All homes will be single-story.

  • Each home will have a living room, dining area or suitable dining bar, pantry, coat closet, laundry closet, and full kitchen.

  • Each home will feature a front porch and connective pathways to encourage resident interaction and wellness.

  • Each home will have at least a one-car garage or carport.

  • Each home will be fully accessible with wide entrances; adaptable counters, shelves and cabinets; and, safe and accessible range/oven and microwave devices.

  • Each resident will have a private bedroom with a sitting area, desk, and ample closet space, and a private bathroom with a zero-entry shower, handrails, and floor drain.

  • For safety and resident quality of life, each home will be equipped with smart home technology that enables remote support staff to be available, and safeguards against fire, flooding, intrusion, and can alert staff in a medical event.

Crossbridge Point Community Plan

Additionally, Crossbridge Point will feature a 3,000 square foot clubhouse which ILADD will use to provide quality programming to those we serve. While not all of our programming will take place there, it will be another convenient option for our self-advocates, especially those living in our neighborhood.

Crossbridge Point will be a part of a much larger, 260+ acre development. This development, Wild Air, will feature other neighborhoods, apartments, light retail and commercial options, park space, and a large amenity center which will be accessible to all residents, including ours. These features will only add to the opportunities for our self-advocates to continue building independent living skills.

Although we are excited to begin development of Crossbridge Point, we do not intend to stop there. We have a model that is replicable, and as such, we intend to build future communities to foster independent living for those with IDD. The need is great, and ILADD is leading the way in creating new and unique housing options for self-advocates with IDD in Central Indiana.
