ILADD Hiking Club Debuts!

The ILADD Hiking Club held its first hike on Saturday, February 27th at Starkey Nature Park in Zionsville. The eight self-advocates and five volunteers hiked on muddy trails that still had patches of snow from the nearly one foot of snow that had fallen in the area ten days earlier.

This made the 2.3 mile hike more fun and challenging, and required the group to utilize teamwork skills to get across some small streams filled with run-off from the melting snow.

Everyone had a great time, stopping along the way to talk about nature and enjoy the beauty of the park. Starkey Nature Park is an 80-acre heavily wooded park along Eagle Creek with several trails for hiking.

The next hike for the  ILADD Hiking Club is set for Saturday, March 20th at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park in Indianapolis. For information email Tom Easterday at teasterday@iladdinc.org.
