CIRCLES/Relationship Class

This is an 8-week course that will meet each Tuesday, between 9/24 and 11/12 from 6:30 - 8:00pm at the ILADD Sunshine Barn (4025 Whitestown Parkway).

This course utilizes the CIRCLES® curriculum with visuals and video modeling to teach social boundaries, self-protection skills, and acceptable behaviors. This class will teach the unwritten social rules necessary to develop healthy relationships and interact safely within our community and to create an understanding that relationships are built over time. The curriculum uses seven color coded CIRCLES to categorize the degree of closeness we have with those we interact with and how to determine the appropriate type of TOUCH, TALK and TRUST we should have with people based on our relationship with them. This class will be taught by Michele Gray, ILADD Program Manager and Behavior Consultant for over 25 years. Registration is required and participants should be committed to attending as many classes during the 8-week session as possible.

ILADD Hiking Club
Oct
27
1:00 PM13:00

ILADD Hiking Club

Our next ILADD Hiking Club hike is scheduled for Sunday, October 27th (NOTE: This is the fourth Sunday in October, due to a conflict on the third Sunday) at Mounds State Park in Anderson, Indiana. We will meet at 12:30 p.m. for a picnic lunch (bring your own sack lunch, ILADD will provide a bottled water and cookies) and begin hiking at 1:00 p.m. The hike will take about two hours.

Mounds State Park is the site of ten mounds/earthworks built by the Adena and Hopewell cultures around 160 B.C. We will see and discuss some of the mounds during our hike. We will be hiking for about 2.5 miles on Trail 5 which skirts the boundary of the park and has scenic views as it follows along the White River and the limestone bluffs (we will, again, switch to another trail toward the end to see more mounds). It is the same trail we hiked and enjoyed on some previous hikes (see the attached pictures). You can view a map of Mounds State Park at https://www. In.gov/dnr/state-parks/.

ILADD Hiking Club is for adults with developmental/intellectual disabilities who can walk at least 2-3 miles, up and down hills, on uneven ground, and on unpaved trails. All hikers should bring their own water bottle. It is recommended that everyone bring a change of shoes and socks for after the hike because it may get muddy if it rains or within a day or two before the hike. Since the hike is in late October, be prepared for cool Fall weather (temperatures are generally in the 50- 60 degree range) and dress accordingly. If we need to postpone the hike due to excessive rain, storms, or other factors, we will email or call you two hours or more before the hike is set to commence.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED: The hike will be limited to the first 20 registrants. If you have not already done so, you must let us know you will be participating so we can notify you if we need to change our plans due to bad weather or other circumstances. Register by emailing us at teasterday@iladdinc.org of your intent to go on the hike by October 24, 2024. If you have not previously completed the registration forms for the ILADD Hiking Club, you must complete and submit those forms by October 24, 2024. For questions, registration information, and forms, please contact ILADD at teasterday@iladdinc.org or call (765-426-7175). There is no ILADD fee for this hike.

DIRECTIONS: Take I-465 east to I-69 North. Go north on I-69 for about 26 miles to IN-9 North (exit 226), then turn left (north) onto IN-9/South Scatterfield Road. Turn right (east) onto IN-236/East 53rd Street, then left (north) onto Rangeline Road (the road name changes to East County Road 67 as you veer right to the northeast). Next, go past County Road East 150 South and then turn a sharp left onto County Road East 100 South and travel for about one-quarter mile. Finally, turn right onto IN-232/Mounds Road. In less than one mile, turn left into Mounds State Park. You will need to pay a park entry fee ($7 per vehicle – if you would like to be reimbursed by ILADD please get a receipt and give it to Tom Easterday) upon entering the park. Then follow the entrance road toward the Visitors Center and park in the parking area south of the Visitors Center. We will meet at the picnic area next to the historic Bronnenberg House. The approximate driving time from Zionsville is about fifty-five minutes.

Cost: FREE – We ask that you commit to attend each session
