ILADD Hiking Club

  • Strawtown Koteewi Park 12308 Strawtown Avenue Noblesville, IN, 46060 United States (map)

Our next ILADD Hiking Club hike is scheduled for Sunday, July 16th at Strawtown Koteewi Park just north of Noblesville, Indiana. It is less than 40 minutes from Zionsville. We will meet at 1:00 p.m. at the Taylor Center of Natural History (12308 Strawtown Avenue) and begin hiking by 1:15 p.m. The hike will take about two hours.

Strawtown Koteewi Park is an 800-acre park operated by Hamilton County Parks & Recreation. There are two fairly easy and flat trails in the park, both of which follow along the scenic White River and go through restored native Indiana prairies. The land was once inhabited by the Lenape and Miami Tribes, and there is a replicated Native American Village located outside of the Taylor Center of Natural History. You can view a map of Strawtown Koteewi Park on  https://www.hamiltoncounty.in.gov/Facilities/Details/Strawtown-Koteewi-Park-11.

ILADD Hiking Club is for adults with developmental/intellectual disabilities who can walk at least 2-3 miles, up and down hills, on uneven ground, on unpaved trails. All hikers should bring their own water bottle. It is recommended that everyone bring a change of shoes and socks for after the hike because it may get muddy if it rains or within a day or two prior to the hike. Since it is mid-July, be prepared for hot weather and dress accordingly (hat and sunscreen are recommended). If we need to postpone the hike due to excessive rain, storms, or other factors, we will email or call you two hours or more before the hike is set to commence.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED: The hike will be limited to the first 20 registrants. It is very important that you let us know you will be participating so we can notify you if we need to change our plans due to bad weather or other circumstances. Register by emailing us at teasterday@iladdinc.org of your intent to go on the hike by July 13, 2023. If you have not previously completed the registration forms for the ILADD Hiking Club, you must complete and submit those forms by July 13, 2023. For questions, registration information and forms, please contact ILADD at teasterday@iladdinc.org or call (317-873-2134). There is no ILADD fee for this hike.

Then turn left (west) onto Strawtown Avenue. Turn right at the entrance for the Taylor Center of Natural History of Strawtown Koteewi Park.  We will meet there in the parking lot. Approximate driving time from Zionsville is about thirty-eight minutes.
