ILADD Educational Workshop
Money Matters: Budgeting Workshop
Guest instructor: Katrina Reynolds, Vice President Bank Manager
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend these workshops with their self-advocates.
This is a two-part series. Workbooks will be provided, and “homework” will be given to examine your personal budget. You will be asked to bring specific information back to session 2 to create your own personal budget. This information will remain confidential but will assist self-advocates to begin to evaluate their income, spending, and saving habits to move toward greater independence with money management.
Session 1:
Tuesday, January 23, 2024, 6:30 – 8:00 pm
This class will cover: What is a budget? Tracking your income, tracking your spending, creating a budget / bill calendar, short-term strategies for changing your budget, and the importance of prioritizing bills and spending. Homework will assist self-advocates in getting a total picture of their current budget for more in-depth conversations in session 2.
Session 2:
Thursday, February 29, 2024 6:30 – 8:00 pm
This class will cover: We will review “homework” from session 1. Discussing where your money comes from, where you spend your money, the difference between needs and wants, goal setting to identify changes you would like to make to your budget, strategies to help you possibly earn more and spend better, and how to make tough decisions when money is tight.
