Our next ILADD Hiking Club hike is scheduled for Sunday, June 23rd (one week later than normal due to Father’s Day) at 1:00 p.m. at Eagle’s Crest Nature Preserve in Indianapolis (it is northwest of Eagle Creek Park). The Hoosier Hikers Council called it “One of Indiana’s finest nature preserves.” It is a shorter trail than most that we hike on (approx. 1.7 miles), so we will likely do an out-and-back while stopping to talk about some of the native plants and birds along the trail. The trail is rated as easy to moderate. Eagle’s Crest Nature Preserve is located at 7200 Fishback Road. After entering off Fishback Road follow the road back to the parking area on the left. There is no entry fee to the nature preserve.
ILADD Hiking Club is for adults with developmental/intellectual disabilities who can walk at least 2-3 miles, up and down hills, on uneven ground, on unpaved trails. All hikers should bring their own water bottle. It is recommended that everyone bring a change of shoes and socks for after the hike because it may get muddy if it rains within a day or two prior to the hike. Since the hike is in late June, be prepared for warm weather (average June high temperature in Indianapolis is 81 degrees) and dress accordingly (sunscreen and bug spray are recommended). If we need to postpone the hike due to excessive rain or storms, we will email or call you two hours or more before the hike is set to commence.
REGISTRATION REQUIRED: The hike will be limited to the first 20 registrants. It is very important that you let us know you will be participating, so we can notify you if we need to change our plans due to bad weather or other circumstances. RSVP/Register for this hike by emailing us at teasterday@iladdinc.org of your intent to go on the hike by June 20, 2024.
